Author Spotlight: sam sax

For the next few weeks, we’ll be spotlighting writers with recent books.

sam sax won our 2016 Poetry Contest with his poem “Psychotherapy.” Contest judge Melissa Kwasny praised the “vigor in its truth-telling [and] vulnerability in the complexity of its emotions.”

sax’s first book Madness (Penguin, 2017) was published in September 2017 after winning the 2016 National Poetry Series. And this year, sax won the James Laughlin Award for his second book Bury It (Wesleyan University, 2018).

Check out sam’s poem “I Want So Desperately to be Finished with Desire” from the PEN Poetry Series.
